It’s important for me to let people enjoy what they see, but I also see contemporary art as a fantastic medium to focus on political and cultural issues. Look carefully and you will see some hidden messages in most of my works, sometimes obvious, sometimes not.
One of my more recent paintings ‘Teardrop’ is a good example of this and is inspired by a project of World Wild Fund For Nature (WWF- The Netherlands), concerning the habitats of the endangered Orang-utan.
‘Teardrop’ shows a crying baby Orang-utan. The image is a persiflage of Bragolin’s painting of the well known crying gipsy- boy. The teardrop in the painting reflects the problems this species is having, for instance the threat to natural resources and the dangers of human hunters.
During coming expositions this image will tell his story to the public.
Let’s hope people will become aware of what is happening to this unique animal and engage themselves. But more is possible...
By publishing this image in a limited edition of giclées, the story can reach more people.
The benefits of this project will be entirely donated to the lasting plan of WWF (The Netherlands) to protect the endangered Orang-utan.
Through this way, my painting can actually contribute to save the Orang-utan.
The certified art giclées is published in a limited edition of 200 copies. For 285,00 euros you can become the owner of this unique piece of art and you will help the Orang-utan to survive.
