For this commissioned piece I translated someone's story into a painting. It's a painting about leaving things behind, growing and becoming stronger. Life can sometimes be heavy, cloudy and dark, but behind these moments the sun is always there. In search for this, the little mouse climbed through the clouds, away from the past to bask in the sun...

Unconditional love
2025This commissioned painting is made for a special center in Germany which supports families and women before and during pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. I was asked to make a painting that symbolizes the unconditional love between a mother and her child. A representation that shows the naturalness, love and strength between both of them, in its positive and pure form. And… it would be nice to see some ‘waves’ in the painting. Enough food for thought which finally turned out in the idea for this painting. Like no other animal, a sea otter cub relies on the unconditional love of its mother. Surrounded by water she is literally its island in the sea; an anchor to hold on to. The little cub is laying on her belly and the waves lull it into sleep. But when big waves come, like troubles in its little life, it can always rely on its mothers protection.
